SCM Processes

Key to Software Configuration Management are some key processes that are traditionally defined in SCM.

To be able to find the elements that can be replaced in a product, those elements need a name and a version--- or some other identifier. Getting a good understanding of what people mean when they say widget X, version 1 is critical to maintainablity.
Consistency Checking
Traditionally referred to as Control refers to keeping abreast of the changes and their impact for the end user.
Status Accounting
Recording and reporting on the status of components, change requests and statistics.
Audit and Review
Checking that the product is complete. Ensuring that the product is well defined as a set of components.
